Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington spoke in an interview with Music Week about the evolution of the band's sound, which has received criticism for its pop sound due to the singles released from the new album. Bennington defended the change, saying that people need to get over their debut album, Hybrid Theory , released in 2000.
“People ask us, ‘What do you think when they say you sold out?’ I don’t care. If you like the music, great. If you don’t, that’s your opinion too, great. If you think we’re doing this for commercial or monetary reasons, trying to achieve success with a formula… Then you should stab yourself in the face.”.
When we made Hybrid Theory, I was the oldest guy in the band, in my early twenties. That's why I'm like, 'Why are we still talking about Hybrid Theory? That was a thousand years ago. It's a great album, we love it. But it's time to move on. You know what I mean?'
