Joko Widodo was elected with 53% of the vote.
Indonesia today elected Joko Widodo, the governor of Jakarta, as its new president. Widodo is a known metal fan, frequently citing Metallica and Napalm Death as his favorite bands.
Widodo will begin his term as president on October 20th. In past interviews, the politician has spoken about his passions: “I listen to heavy metal music, from Metallica to Led Zeppelin to Napalm Death. Rock is my passion.” Last year, Widodo received a bass guitar signed by Robert Trujillo, but had to return the gift because during the campaign it could be interpreted as a bribe.
With 130 million voters, Widodo won with 53.1% of the vote and will be the country's first president who does not belong to the political elite or was an army general. Widodo was born in the poorest neighborhoods of Surakarta, the son of a carpenter.
