Lead singer criticizes musician selection

Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan has shared his opinion on the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on his official website. According to Gillan, the selection of some musicians and not others was 'foolish' on the part of the institution.

Deep Purple's induction into the Hall of Fame was announced last Friday, the 18th. Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Rod Evans, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes, Ian Paice, and Jon Lord were the musicians chosen to receive the honor.

Gillan comments: “Leaving aside past nonsense, the intro isn’t Deep Purple. It’s an arbitrary selection of members, excluding Steve Morse and Don Airey; two members who have been the lifeblood of Deep Purple for a long time. Obviously, this is foolish and my response is simple: thank you very much.”

He continues: “And… What a coincidence. This morning I received a wedding invitation from good old friends. Unfortunately, my family wasn’t invited and I would have had to sit next to my ex-wife (we divorced decades ago). They were shocked when I called to thank them and decline the invitation.”

The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on April 8, 2016.
