Guitarist Richie Blackmore posted a statement yesterday on his official Facebook page saying that he will not be attending Deep Purple's induction ceremony into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at the request of Deep Purple's manager. See the statement below:
Roger Glover says Blackmore did the right thing by leaving Deep Purple
“Ritchie was honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was discussing the possibility of attending until we received a letter from the president of the Rock Hall of Fame, which stated that Bruce Payne, Deep Purple's tour manager, had said “No”…………!!!”. Therefore, Ritchie will not be present at the ceremony. He sincerely thanks all the fans who voted for him.”.
In December, shortly before the official announcement that Deep Purple would be inducted into the hall of fame, Ian Paice had commented that if all the band members got together at the ceremony, 'it could end in a brawl' . The band's vocalist, Ian Gillan, criticized the choice of musicians to be honored .
