Mustaine speaks to Ultimate Guitar
In an interview with Ultimate Guitar, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine was asked which riff he's most proud of writing. Mustaine responded with the track from the 1985 album Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!, “Last Rites / Loved to Death”:
"Probably the riff from 'Loved to Deth'. This is one of my favorite riffs because it's really hard to play and has a really funky and cool rhythmic pattern. So playing it right is one thing, but playing it right and singing at the same time is a whole other challenge." .
Mustaine described the song as a tragic romance: "'Loved To Deth' is a story of 'boy falls in love with girl, girl doesn't fall back, boy kills girl'. Many young people understand the mentality of 'if I can't have it, nobody will'."
