Simpsons releases song inspired by Morrissey and The Smiths; listen

An episode featuring a character based on the singer generated controversy and threats of legal action.

The Simpsons has officially released one of the songs from the soundtrack of the controversial episode featuring a character inspired by 1980s singers, primarily Morrissey .

Featuring the voice of actor Benedict Cumberbatch , of Sherlock and Doctor Strange fame, as Quilloughby , and the original voice actress for Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith Smiths vocalist , complete with Homer Simpson in a poster that looks very much like the cover of The Queen Is Dead (1986) in the background.

The episode "Panic on the Streets of Springfield" caused controversy with Morrissey . After the show aired, his manager, Peter Katsis, published a statement of repudiation and even considered legal options to sue the animation company, but the singer himself explained that the expenses would not be feasible .

The track was released on major streaming services with credits to the character. Currently, the character's other tracks have not yet been released.
