Simone Simons releases her first solo single; listen to “Aeterna”

The single is part of her debut album 'Vermillion'.

Simone Simons has announced her highly anticipated debut solo album, titled Vermillion . The album is scheduled for release on August 23rd via Nuclear Blast Records .

In this new work, the Epica is joined by her longtime collaborator, Arjen Lucassen , known for his work in the  Ayreon .

To celebrate the announcement of her first solo album, Simone released the single  “Aeterna,” with a music video directed by Patric Ullaeus . This is the album's opening track, and Simone and Arjen state [transcription via Blabbermonth ]: “it certainly recalls the characteristic sound of Epica and Ayreon, combining Latin lyrics with a hint of oriental sonority.”

They further reveal: “We sought to balance the powerful and bombastic elements with more atmospheric moments. As this is the first song the public will hear from this album, it is extremely important to us and we are eager for everyone to enjoy it!”

“The song adopts the perspective of a star about to transform into a supernova, exploring the interconnectedness of everything in the universe, like a cosmic web woven from stardust. It addresses our deepest emotions, consciousness, and other mysteries of life that science is not yet able to fully explain. In essence, 'Aeterna' is a reflection on our place in the vast cosmos and on the bonds that unite us, after all, as Carl Sagan , we are all 'made of star stuff'.”
