Simone Simons , vocalist of Epica , reflected on the issue of using artificial intelligence in music in light of the increasing use of AI in various sectors.

During an interview with EMP (via Blabbermouth ), the singer confessed that the topic is discussed by the band and in groups of friends, but Simone tries "not to go crazy" and learn little by little. "We talk about it amongst ourselves backstage with our colleagues and other creative people. Some have bigger concerns than others. I myself try to adapt in the best way I can. I mean, you can't stop it anyway, and I think we should try to use it to our advantage, in whatever way we can," she said.

Despite accepting this technological shift, Simone Simons has a very clear opinion when it comes to the use of artificial intelligence to create music. One example was when a member of the Epica team created a version of the song “Abyss Of Time” sung by Pink using an AI tool. “At first I didn’t even recognize it was Epica. And then I thought, ‘ah, it’s Pink’s voice,’ but even so, you realize there’s no soul, it still sounds artificial. You can’t fake emotion, I think,” she observed. “I think that, in the end, human beings need other human beings and art needs to be created by real flesh and blood.”

One of the uses that Simone considers most acceptable for implementing artificial intelligence in music is for composing lyrics. “But, yes, writing lyrics is something different. There, for sure, you can probably cheat. But for me, one of the good things, of course, besides singing, is also writing lyrics. Until now, whenever I've written lyrics, I've used a thesaurus or RhymeZone [a dictionary of rhymes and synonyms], which is already a bit of cheating, I suppose. But my lyrics still come from my strange mind,” she pointed out.

Wikimetal poll on the subject, our audience determined that music and Artificial Intelligence should not mix, as "music should be a human product." See the results here .
