SILVER , a project created by guitarist Felipe Machado ( VIPER ) and vocalist Rodrigo Cerveira Turn Around , this Friday, the 14th . The duo's aim is to present a contemporary rock sound that engages with the tradition of 1990s rock. The compositions and arrangements carry a modern freshness, without abandoning the characteristic heaviness of the genre.
Produced by Val Santos , the work features five original songs that sound as if they've opened a portal to the golden age of rock, from which their main influences come. What would grunge sound like in 2025? Probably like SILVER.
A Zeppelin-esque riff sets the tone in the title track, which navigates between the heavy energy of Page , Plant , Jones and Bonham and the sound of modern times. In "What is Right," the highlight is Cerveira's versatility on the microphone, with a timbre well-balanced between power and an intimate feel.
Like any good "90s album," it couldn't be without a power ballad: "Love is Rage" has a beautiful piano introduction until the guitar, bass, and drums join the melody to create one of the best moments of the EP. The song features a special appearance by Giovanna Cerveira , whose strong and delicate voice shines like silver – pardon the pun regarding the project's name.
In the final stretch, "Hard Times" and "Sun Over Hills" emerge with riffs drawn from an imaginary Sunset Strip connecting Los Angeles and São Paulo, just as has happened in the various revivals of the rock movement over the last few decades.
Music lives in waves. The biggest waves emerge from the streets, eventually dominating the scene. This was the case with rock in the 60s, punk in the 70s, and pop and hip hop in the following years. Rock returned with force in the 90s, but since then, it seemed to have lost ground to electronic beats and MCs. That's why SILVER's first EP is great news. It happily reminds us that "Rock is Rock," as the translation of the Led Zeppelin film said, "The Song Remains the Same."”.
