The lead singer of Garbage emphasizes that the standards influenced by proponents of white male cultural taste are coming to an end.

Shirley Manson used her social media platforms to express her strong disapproval of the racist and misogynistic comments made by Jann Wenner , the founder of Rolling Stone and creator of the Hall of Fame .

Wenner's interview with The New York Times on September 16th generated controversy due to his polemical arguments regarding the absence of Black and female artists in his new book, titled The Master .

The lead singer of the band Garbage , commenting on the matter, stated that she was not surprised by Jann Wenner's statements. According to Shirley Manson, the journalist, who has always been considered one of the "cultural guardians" of his generation, is not the only one to be blatantly misogynistic and sexist.

“This old system of omitting, attacking, undermining, or rejecting anyone because they refuse to conform to standards shaped by white male taste is finally coming to an end,” stated the Garbage vocalist.

Shirley's critique underscores the vital importance of diversity and inclusion in the music scene, highlighting the need to amplify the voices that have historically been underrepresented, and to provide fair opportunities for all artists, regardless of gender or race. She reiterated that our culture is a treasure that must be cultivated and protected at all costs.
