The vocalist was considered one of the best voices in Seattle

Shawn Smith , lead singer of the rock band Brad , died at age 53 on April 5th. The cause of death was reportedly complications from diabetes.

Brad Pitt was formed in 1992 in Seattle, the city of grunge. By 2012, the group had released five studio albums alongside Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam . The group also included Regan Hagar on drums and Keith Lowe on bass.

Their debut album, Shame (1993), was recorded in just 20 days and was incredibly well received by critics and audiences at the time of its release.

The date of Smith's death is marked by an unfortunate coincidence. April 5th was the same day that Kurt Cobain of Nirvana passed away in 1994 and Layne Staley of Alice in Chains in 2002.

Following the confirmation of his death, musicians used their social media to mourn the loss and pay tribute to the vocalist. Mike Inez of Alice in Chains was one of them, saying that Smith had "one of the best voices in Seattle."

Rest in peace, Shawn Smith.
