American rock and blues singer Shawn James released his eighth studio album, Passage , this Friday, the 12th . The album is now available for listening on major streaming platforms.
Previewed by the singles “Icarus”, “My Juliet”, “It's Alright” and “Tired of Trying”, the musician's new work emerges as a true rite of passage after 14 years on the road, blending the raw and nostalgic elements of his first album, Shadows (2012), with the experience and level of production achieved in The Dark and the Light (2019).
Passage arrives as a sincere portrait of the artist's recent emotions over the past eighteen months. Between dense tracks that address sensitive themes and moments of pure sonic liberation, the album delivers a rollercoaster of feelings that travels from mental exhaustion and loneliness to moments of acceptance, hope, and liberation.
In an interview with Wikimetal, Shawn James commented on the new album: “This album is me maturing and looking at life differently with the knowledge I have now. Each album is a portrait of where I am at that moment. This one is the same thing, it's the progress of where I've arrived […] I feel there's a lot of nostalgic emotion from Shadows (2012), but with the production of The Dark and the Light (2019). Those are two of my fans' favorite albums. I feel they'll be very happy with the direction of this one, because it pays respect to the old and the new.”
