Sharon Osbourne businesswoman and wife of Ozzy Osbourne , is leaving the CBS television The Talk .
Her continued presence became untenable after the controversy generated when Sharon defended live on air the comments made by her friend and journalist Piers Morgan . Morgan questioned Meghan Markle about having suffered racism in an interview with Oprah Winfrey .
After completing an internal review of all the events that occurred, CBS issued a statement saying that Sharon had decided to leave the program.
“The events that occurred during the broadcast of the program on March 10th left everyone involved deeply dismayed, including the audience watching at home. Our internal assessment concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-host on March 10th is not aligned with the values of a respectful workplace. We also found no evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the argument or kept either host in the dark.”
The statement continues:
“At the same time, we are aware that all professionals are responsible for what happens during live broadcasts, and it became clear that the presenters were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving the topic of racism.”
To understand what happened:
Shortly after Meghan Markle's famous interview with Oprah Winfrey on the 7th, British journalist Piers Morgan made controversial comments saying that he "doesn't believe a word Meghan said."
As a result, Morgan was fired from the show he had hosted for the past 6 years, Good Morning Britain , and his friend Sharon Osbourne publicly defended him.
In the March 10th episode of The Talk , Sharon Osbourne and co-host Sheryl Underwood engaged in a heated discussion about racism.
"Don't come here crying, because if anyone should be crying, it's me," Sharon said.
Two days later, Sharon publicly apologized, saying she panicked at the possibility of people thinking she was racist. Shortly after, Sharon also stated that she hadn't received adequate preparation from the show's staff regarding the topic and mentioned that her co-host had received pre-written instructions and questions.
