Sharon Osbourne Black Sabbath 's farewell concert are "ridiculous."
Back To The Beginning Ozzy Osbourne 's last show with the original Black Sabbath lineup, took place on July 5th and, according to a post by Tom Morello , who acted as the event's musical director, raised over $190 million for charity (the equivalent of over 1 billion reais).
Billboard magazine reported that the event grossed $190 million, while The Guardian reported that the event's pay-per-view live stream reached over five million fans, generating an estimated $150 million in revenue. The event organizers pledged that 100% of the live stream revenue would be divided between Birmingham Children's , Acorn Children's Hospice , and the Cure Parkinson's .
Sharon Osbourne denies reports about the amount raised.
In a new interview with Pollstar , a renowned live music industry website, Sharon Osbourne stated that these claims are exaggerated.
“One of the things that scares me is all this false press about how we made $140 million and everything, and I’m like, God, I wish we had made that, just for one show. It’s just ridiculous, the different stories. I went online the next morning and it was something like $140 million, $160 million. And I’m like, where does all this come from?”
She continued: “It takes a long time [to calculate the figures involved], because we’ve already factored in all the bands we booked and their expenses, and it’s going to take a good six weeks to get to the final number.”
So, the magazine questioned whether all these reports don't help the Children's Hospital, which is waiting for its $190 million, and Osbourne replied: “My God! It's the Children's Hospital, a children's hospice, and Parkinson's research. Everyone thinks they're going to cure everything with that much money, but that's not the reality.”
However, Sharon Osbourne also acknowledged the magnitude of Back To The Beginning and declared that the event was "a great success".
“It was a phenomenal event. I think it was the first time someone retired and did that, with the show being broadcast and donated to charity. So, it’s the first time someone says goodnight like that; it’s the perfect way, when you have such a long career, to end it. I never wanted Ozzy to just disappear without a big event.”
Black Sabbath's farewell concert will be released in theaters.
Currently in production at Mercury Studios , the concert film will be a celebration. The film will seek to capture the emotional weight of Ozzy and his band's final show in his hometown of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
