During the 61st episode of The Wikimetal Happy Hour , Sharon Den Adel , vocalist of Within Temptation , spoke with Nando Machado , co-founder of Wikimetal , about not having faced difficulties for being a woman as the vocalist of a metal band, something almost unheard of in this market.
“As strange as it may seem, I never felt any difficulty in being a woman in this field,” she said. “When we started, people were pleasantly surprised by the music we were making.”
She goes on to say that when she started her career, she didn't have many women to look up to, since the industry is mostly made up of men. "I can't think of any women right now. Of course, you had more women on the rock side like Heart, a band I really like." She concludes by revealing that she feels lucky about this, as she has heard horrible stories from female colleagues about the industry.
