Hello friends, fans, and readers of Wikimetal! This is Dani Nolden, vocalist of Shadowside.
The show in Bologna on March 6th was undoubtedly one of the best of Shadowside's career... An insane crowd welcomed us with open arms, and we also met a group of Brazilian fans who helped ease our longing to speak Portuguese.
The fans, who screamed from beginning to end of the show, were largely responsible for me being able to continue singing, because I had a very serious throat infection that forced me to spend the afternoon in the hospital. When you go on stage and see people enjoying themselves, you can literally forget all the pain.
The next day we continued our journey to Greece, and initially our route was going to take us through Serbia.
Brazilians don't need visas for several countries outside the European Union, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, and we imagined the same was true for Serbia. Big mistake! Initially, we planned to take a ferry from Italy to Greece, but we changed our plans at the last minute and didn't realize that we might need a visa for one of the countries we would have to pass through.
At the border between Croatia and Serbia, we discovered we couldn't enter the country, forcing us to return to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where we were stopped a few kilometers past the border by a policeman demanding a bribe… in desperation and with little money in our pockets, we tried to chip in to pay the policeman. Our panic and the delay in getting the money were so great that he got tired of waiting and let us go… even the policeman knows that rock bands don't have money! (laughs)
We continued our journey, always on very difficult roads, until we arrived in Albania and faced some of the worst possible travel conditions. Completely impassable roads showed us just how much our little tour bus can handle!!!
