Today we're going to talk about a Korn that deals with a very sensitive topic, something that happened to the band's vocalist, Jonathan Davis . The song is called "Daddy," and it's on the band's first album, from 1994.

In “Daddy,” Korn talks about abuse Jonathan Davis suffered as a child. Despite the song's title, “ Daddy ,” the vocalist has stated that the abuse was not perpetrated by his father, but by a family friend, later revealed by him to have been his babysitter at the time.

Jonathan's biggest frustration is that even after telling his parents what happened, they never believed him. Regarding the composition, he said:

“When I was a child, I was being abused by someone else, and I went to my parents and told them about it, and they thought I was lying. They never did a damn thing about it. They didn’t believe what was happening to their son. I really don’t like talking about this song. That’s all I’ve ever said about it.”

The song is originally 17 minutes long and showcases an incredible performance from the vocalist, both in his quite sentimental and heavy voice from the first verse, to parts where he cries and shouts hostile things, in fact making this song a true cathartic outpouring.

At 9 minutes and 32 seconds the song officially ends, and after almost 5 minutes of silence, a "bonus" part begins, called "Michael & Geri," which is a couple arguing and has nothing to do with the song's lyrics. This part was added by producer Ross Robinson, probably to break the extremely heavy mood of the song.

Here's a snippet of the lyrics to Korn's "Daddy," followed by the song:

“Mom, please forgive me.
I had to let out all my pain and suffering.
Now that I'm done, remember that I will always love you […]
You abused me, I feel dirty!
It hurts, when I was a child! […]
I scream, nobody hears me!
It hurts, I'm not a liar! […]
I fucking hate you! Son of a
bitch! You ruined my life!
I wanted to die!”
