The Sex Pistols , Glen Matlock , said that the band "could have made two or three more albums" after Never Mind The Bollocks ...
The iconic punk group released their only studio album in 1977. The release came before the band split up the following year, after the departure of vocalist Johnny Rotten (also known as John Lydon ).
Although bassist Sid Vicious died in 1979, the Pistols later reunited on three occasions with Matlock (1996-2001, 2002-2003 and 2007-2008). However, they did not release any albums apart from some compilations and live projects.
Glen Matlock formed the band in 1975 and left in 1977. He was soon replaced by Vicious. The bassist appeared on a recent edition of the Rockonteurs on March 21st.
“I think [the Sex Pistols] would never have made 10 albums…,” he said in the episode. “That would never have happened, but we could have made two or three more albums, I think.”
Speaking about his departure from the group, which was before the release of their first and final LP, Matlock talked about his problems with the Sex Pistols' manager, Malcolm McLaren . "I think Malcolm never understood that we were good," he explained. "He really thought we were rubbish. [...] But we played well. I wanted to be in a band to play music, I like that."
However, Matlock decided to leave because he felt he wasn't being treated equally within the group. “It was reaching a breaking point. I didn't like the way things were going.” The 64-year-old musician said he left because he “didn't have the support” of his bandmates, adding that his “position had become untenable.”
The news came months after reports that the Sex Pistols had broken up for good, due to the band becoming involved in a new royalties lawsuit.
It has been reported that Steve Jones and Paul Cook have filed a lawsuit against John Lydon and Glen Matlock for breach of contract, as the two believe they are owed money. Some claim that the former members of the Sex Pistols will now only communicate through their lawyers.
Cook ruled out any future reunion of the group last year, saying: "I can't see that happening again for the Pistols and I don't think anyone wants that."
