Sevendust 's lead singer , Lajon Witherspoon , has revealed that the band's new album is confirmed for release sometime this year.
In an interview with Cutter's Rockast , Witherspoon discussed the band's approach to releasing a new album and the possibility of returning to live performances: “It’s like being at a roundtable with everyone talking, and in the end, we still don’t know what’s going on and what’s happening with the world. Last time, we had a meeting via text message, we were talking about starting the tour, but to be able to tour, we’ll be able to do it in cities that are allowing it. And who knows? That could be in four months, or two months. I don’t know. The way things are looking, people are partying like it’s 1999. I don’t know what’s going to happen. But that’s our plan: to make sure we’re out there. Not completely, with Sevendust tearing it up every night in various cities, but hopefully we’ll find a balance where we can play three or four nights in different cities that are safe and following the rules until we know what comes out of this.”
When asked about a possible release date for the album, the vocalist stated, “I know the album will come out this year. We're going to make sure that happens; I think I can say that.”
“Having said that, how ironic is it that we had this record, and we thought it would be released now, or close to now, and we did a cover, and that was probably one of the hardest things for me to decide to do,” says the vocalist about the band's redemption of “The Day I Tried to Live” Chris Cornell 's songs Soundgarden song , and I would love to do them all… so I decided to put all my heart and soul and energy [into the cover], as I would with anything, and I thought the result was beautiful. But who would have thought that this would be the first thing we would release from this album? But in these times, that song, for I don't know what reason, seemed so compatible with what's happening. And we just thought it would be a very good act for us to try to share something of us from Sevendust in these crazy times, and I think that song, I think, was a good act, and I hope people like it.”
