System Of A Down hasn't released a new album in almost twenty years.
Guitarist John Dolmayan , for example, has stated that vocalist Serj Tankian "hasn't really wanted to be in the band for a long time" ( via Blabbermouth ) .
In a recent interview on The Jessea Lee Show , Tankian commented on what would lead him to record a new album ( via Blabbermouth ): "an equal approach to everything within the band."
He explained that he would like "more equality in terms of the origin of the music, in terms of the division of everything, including publishing, in terms of ideas, in terms of sharing the vision – that kind of thing."
The musician, who is in the process of promoting his book Down With The System , said that this is in his work: “We jokingly call it a manifesto, because I wrote this down years ago when I had some new songs that I thought would be incredible with System, and then I played them for the guys. And I said, 'Guys, I have an idea for a vision, a different path to follow that I think would be very beneficial for the band.'”
“And I presented – we call it a manifesto in the book almost jokingly, but bringing a manifesto to rock musicians is… [Laughs] I don’t think it works – it doesn’t work. But I was trying to instill the same kind of egalitarian principles that I love as an activist in everything I do. And at that time it didn’t work, but maybe one day it will. We’ll see.”
System Of A Down concert in 2024
The band's first show of 2024 took place on April 27th at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas.
Prior to this, the group had performed at the same event almost a year before.
At last year's show, System Of A Down delivered a performance with thirty-one songs in their setlist, some of which hadn't been played in many years.
