Spitak is a drama about a catastrophic earthquake that devastated Armenia, the country of origin of Serj Tankian.

of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian composed the soundtrack for the film Spitak , which just released a trailer. The drama tells the true story behind the Spitak , which devastated Armenia in 1988.

Tankian, who is Armenian-American, announced the soundtrack will be released on November 30th.

Spitak , a joint production between Armenia and Russia, was directed by Alexander Kott . The story follows Gor, a citizen who left Armenia in search of a better life, but returns after the earthquake. He finds the country devastated and sets out to find his family who may have survived.

“It’s a really heavy film,” Tankian told Rolling Stone . “I wrote a modern score with light pianos and an ethereal sound. It’s quite dreamy, sometimes dark, sometimes light.”

The International Armenian Committee in America described the film as “a requiem.” Spitak “shows the panic, despair, courage, and heroism” of those who tried to find their homes and families despite the circumstances after the earthquake.
