The band has been communicating
System Of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian spoke about new compositions and possible work with the band. When asked about what's been happening with System of a Down, Tankian replied:

“We’ve been communicating and trying to see if we can combine our materials. There’s communication happening from all sides. I can’t say if we’ll have an album or not, because we haven’t been to the studio yet. But we’ve definitely been communicating, playing songs for each other, it’s good. We’ll see what happens (…) I think it would be great to create something new, in a new direction. It would be very exciting, but everyone has to be willing, on the same page, it has to be done in a way that everyone is happy. If we can achieve that, we’ll do something.”
System of a Down's last album, "Mesmerize"/"Hypnotize," was released in 2005. Serj Tankian released a solo album in 2013 and currently works on several side projects.
