This Friday, the 30th, Serj Tankian released the official video for the song "Rumi," which is part of his acclaimed solo EP Elasticity , released at the beginning of April.
“Rumi” is a nearly 6-minute track that sounds almost like an open letter to his six-year-old son, named Rumi in homage to the eponymous 13th-century Sufi poet. The song is dedicated to both of them. The black and white music video is filled with feelings of affection, bravery, unity, and defiance.
In a statement, Serj made the rare decision to comment on the song's lyrics. “Lyrical specificity in music is generally discouraged because fewer people internalize it, as they have less personal connection to it,” he said. “But there are cases where it is vital that the inspiration and the muse be specific. In this case, a father talking to his son and a reverence for the poet who inspired the son's name could not be rewritten in order to generalize it.”
In early April, Wikimetal wrote about Elasticity , describing them as "strange, powerful, creative, and potent." Read the full article here. The EP is now available in all formats and can be purchased on vinyl now via this link.
