Serj Tankian will release a solo EP with songs that were originally intended for a new System of a Down album.

"I have five songs that I was going to release with SOAD, but since it looks like that's not going to happen anymore, I'm going to finish them on my own."

System of a Down has been having some problems when they get together to discuss the band's new album. Amidst all this stalling and band members saying they don't want to work on a new project, Serj Tankian will come out on top.

In an interview with Spin , the vocalist revealed that he intends to release an EP with songs originally written for what would have been System of a Down's new album. "Since we can't agree on how to proceed with the band's new work, I decided to finish these songs I wrote and release them as an EP," he said.

Almost two years ago, in September 2018, Tankian had already revealed on his social media that he had "five songs to release with SOAD, but since it seems that's not going to happen, I'm going to finish them alone."

The vocalist confessed to always having songs ready to be released at the ideal moment, and according to him, this is the perfect moment for these five tracks. “They all have piano and synthesizers, which is quite different from what we do in System, although we do use a bit of synthesizers. There are some really heavy things and there's a song about my son.”

Regarding the theme, he also revealed that it will cover a wide range of subjects, from his family to politics. “I think I’m going to call [the album] Elasticity , just because I wanted to do that with System and I didn’t. For me, it’s not Toxicity , but it is Toxicity [laughs]. That’s what I’m thinking of calling it,” he joked, revealing that the work should be released this year.

When asked about a possible new album with SOAD, Tankian replied: “I don’t know, man. It hasn’t happened yet. But I’ll never say never.”
