Shavo Odadjian, the bassist for System Of A Down, posted controversial comments on his official Facebook page explaining to fans the lack of new material from the band.

In the posts, Shavo blames Tankian for the delay in releasing a new album. Shavo writes: “Okay, I’ll confess. It’s not any of us (Daron, John or Shavo)!! It’s Serj who doesn’t want to make a new album!!! So please stop accusing us of this! We’re just waiting for Serj.”

System of a Down's last CD, Mesmerize/Hypnotize, was released in 2005. The band's lead vocalist, Serj Tankian, released a solo CD in 2012 and is currently also working on two side projects, one in progressive jazz and the other in symphonies.

The bassist also said that, if it were up to him, he would release an album with a new singer: "I'm furious that he let us down, but we need to do something to keep this great band going."

Shavo ends by asking the fans what the band should do: “Should we wait for Serj or record an album with a singer who is as good as, if not better than, him? You decide. I'm confused!”

On the same day, on the band's official page, System of a Down sought to appease the situation, saying that the bassist's comments did not reflect the feelings of the band as a whole: "Those were comments made with poor judgment on Shavo's part." Furthermore, the band made it clear that they do not consider the possibility of recording a new CD without Serj Tankian: "Although we haven't decided on a timeline for a new album, we all believe that a collaborative effort will be better for us and for the fans."
