With the release of his newest solo EP, Elasticity , arriving this Friday, the 19th, Serj Tankian further excites fans by revealing a preview and context of the song that closes the project, "Electric Yerevan".
“[The song] was written in 2015 inspired by the Electric Yerevan protests in Armenia, in which people reacted to a proposed increase in electricity prices by the government,” Serj explains on his official Twitter. “The price increase was cancelled and the people prevailed.”
“Armenia and Artsakh have a rich history of protest movements pushing for more justice and democracy, and despite the traumatic situation in Armenia and Artsakh now, we should be proud of the lessons learned that we can share with others universally,” he concludes.
