Serj Tankian admits frustration over drummer John Dolmayan's political stance.

“This has to do with American politics. When it comes to Armenian issues, we’re on the same page,” says Serj.

A great band isn't necessarily made up of members who like each other or agree on everything. And System Of A Down has recently been living proof of that.

Frontman Serj Tankian an interview with Forbes that he admits to having a frustration with drummer and brother-in-law John Dolmayan for being a supporter of Donald Trump , while he prefers progressive politicians like Bernie Sanders and the current President's rival in the race for the White House, Joe Biden .

“He’s Armenian,” Tankian says. “He’s my brother-in-law and my drummer. Is it frustrating to be politically opposed to your own drummer and brother-in-law? Hell yeah. Of course it’s frustrating, but that has to do with American politics. When it comes to Armenian issues, we’re on the same page.”

Recently, Serj contributed to the soundtrack of the short film No Justice, No Peace , which addresses the anti-racist struggle taking place in the United States this year, and was released on the day that George Floyd , a Black man brutally murdered by police in early 2020 and whose death sparked the protests, would have turned 47.
