Sepultura arrives at their final show with all their power and technical skill, driving the city of Curitiba wild on a rainy Friday, March 22, 2024. A cold night that will be etched in the memory of many fans of the band. The mix of joy, excitement, and melancholy of the audience waiting in line was palpable.
The Live Curitiba event venue was at maximum capacity, with tickets selling out days before the show. The scheduled opening time for the gates was respected, but outside, the line of fans stretched for blocks. According to local vendors, it had been a long time since they had seen the place so busy.
The venue's structure is usually great, but with maximum capacity, it became difficult for many to follow the show, due to the narrow staircases leading to the mezzanine. However, there was an open food and merchandise area, which served as a refuge for many people to "catch their breath" before returning to the floor. Given the importance of the event, Sepultura deserved a larger venue for this final tour.
There was no opening band at the event, and the usual Sepultura came on stage with a bang, playing “Refuse/Resist,” followed by “Territory” and “Slave New World . Derrick Green took a break to talk to the audience, and they continued with more songs that inspired a generation of musicians and bands.
Andreas Kisser , playing like never before, even incited a mosh pit among the audience, who, of course, readily obeyed. Near the end of the show, Derrick thanked the audience for their support during Sepultura's 40th anniversary and they launched into "Sepulnation," "Troops of Doom," and so on. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for, bringing many to tears: "Arise," followed by "Ratamhata" and "Roots."
With great skill and empathy, the band took the famous photo with the audience and left, driving everyone present wild with emotion. But the audience was a little sadder, as it was the last time they would witness that beloved heavy metal band.
The audience slowly left the venue, struggling to believe it was truly over; the feeling of joy mixed with sadness was a unique moment. Many conversations could be heard between strangers, as if everyone were part of a single tribe, the Sepultura tribe, and nothing else mattered. We close another chapter of Brazilian heavy metal with our thanks to the eternal Sepultura!
The tour is produced by 30e and tickets for the shows in São Paulo are available on the Eventim website.
