Sepultura album Roots (1996) Max Cavalera 's idols , who could hardly believe how far his work had reached.

Despite being among the biggest names in metal today, the eldest Cavalera brother still has a fan side when he encounters artists who have influenced him , even when it reaches a friendship level. In a recent interview with radio station WXAV 88.3 FM , the musician commented on the reactions to the album.

“The mix of tribal music and metal was something completely new, we kind of entered completely uncharted territory when we did it and the results were wonderful. We ended up being praised by people like Dave Grohl and Lemmy from Motörhead , something unreal for me – my idols praising some of my work. It was really cool,” he said (via Blabbermouth ).

Max also commented on his motivation for breaking away from metal conventions. “If you do it with passion… You simply need to have passion for what you’re doing and, from time to time, you need to go into uncharted territory and see what happens. And don’t be scared, don’t be afraid, just try. Sometimes you’ll fail, other times you won’t – it might be great or controversial. And that’s okay. It’s not for everyone [to like],” he continued.
