The legendary Brazilian band Sepultura announced in early December 2023 a farewell tour after four decades as the biggest name in Brazilian metal. The news was confirmed at a press conference held in São Paulo, which was covered by Wikimetal.
In a press release shared on social media, the band's situation was described as a death: "Sepultura is going to stop. It's going to die. A conscious and planned death," they stated. However, during today's conversation, the tone was less definitive: "Sepultura isn't going to end. It's going to stop, but Sepultura isn't ending. We want to celebrate with the fans on this tour. I don't think there's a reason why, it's a duty fulfilled."

40th Anniversary Commemorative Album
The tour was already known to fans, but initially as a celebration of Sepultura's 40-year career. According to the band, the tour will function as both an anniversary tour and a farewell tour. The plan to release a live album of the band's 40th-anniversary tour remains.
The project was announced in August of this year by Andreas Kisser: “We are already recording all the shows from this tour. We will record all the shows and when we feel we have the material, we will release something really special for the fans,” he said in an interview with HeadBangers LifeStyle. As Eloy Casagrande added at the press conference, the album is an “ambitious project” that will bring together 40 songs recorded in 40 different cities.
Cities that will host the tour
Called Celebrating Life Through Death, the tour begins here in Brazil in March 2024, with eight initial dates announced. The first show will take place in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais and the band's hometown, followed by Juiz de Fora (MG), Brasília (DF), Uberlândia (MG), Porto Alegre (RS), Curitiba (PR), and Florianópolis (SC). The band will only perform in São Paulo in September.
Tour duration
In total, the tour is initially scheduled to last 18 months. In addition to the first dates in Brazil, the band has also announced shows in Latin America, with dates in Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay during April, followed by a European tour between October and November of next year, with the bands Jinjer, Obituary, and Jesus Piece as special guests.
