Sebastian Bach revealed that he received Dee Snider to take over vocals for Twisted Sister upcoming concert series, following Snider's departure from the tour due to health reasons.
In an interview on the show Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, the vocalist Skid Row became emotional when recounting how Snider, who faces physical problems that prevent him from going on stage, called him "SMF number two"—a term of endearment Snider used for decades—and gave him his direct support to continue the group's legacy on stage.
“Well, I have tears in my eyes right now. I’m SMF Number Two. I was chosen that way by Dee Snider. Because he always called me that. And I need to say that I just spoke to Dee Snider on the phone. We talked for about 45 minutes and we were both kind of emotional. Then he said, ‘You have my full blessing.’ He continued, ‘I love you.’ I said I loved him, and we both got teary-eyed,” said Sebastian [transcription via Blabbermouth]
He continued: “One of my all-time favorite bands is Twisted Sister. And Twisted Sister’s music makes me feel like a child inside. That’s what I was talking about on my new album, how rock and roll has a life of its own. So, I’m a real fan—I’m a fan of that music, and that’s really the main reason why I’m doing this. And also to honor the legacy of those songs. And I see it like when Paul Rodgers joined Queen, or when Axl [Rose] replaced Brian Johnson [in AC/DC]. I’m a Twisted Sister fan and always have been, and I love that music.”
How did the invitation to Sebastian Bach come about?
During the interview, Jay Jay French, guitarist and founding manager of Twisted Sister, explained how the partnership with Sebastian Bach came about. He stated that Eddie Trunk played a decisive role in Twisted Sister's return. According to him, it was Trunk who invited the band to the New York Steelin 2001, after the hiatus that began in 1988. "And that wouldn't have happened without Eddie Trunk," Jay Jay stated.
Jay Jay French said that Twisted Sister has known Sebastian Bach for decades, and the vocalist participated in the track “You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll” (1983). “The band has been following Bach for 20 years, which is really impressive, to think that you were our lead vocalist for a day, 20 years ago, my friend. So, of course, we played on many other things together. We've been together, connected in so many ways. We're great friends, and he's a big fan.”
The guitarist also revealed that they did a secret rehearsal to test the partnership and admitted that he was skeptical at first. “We did a secret rehearsal just to see if it would work, if it could work or not. And you know what happened? Sebastian arrived and… I was skeptical. Trunk, you were absolutely right. Absolutely right. Sebastian arrived and simply killed it. And, once again, for all the skeptics who want to know what it's like to have Sebastian on vocals for Twisted Sister, go online right now. Go to Spotify right now. Type in 'You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll', and you'll hear Twisted Sister accompanying Sebastian Bach.”
