Scream For Me Sarajevo was released last Friday, the 29th.

The extended trailer for the documentary Scream For Me Sarajevo , which tells the story of Bruce Dickinson during the Bosnian War in 1994, has been released.

Released on June 29th, the film explores Bruce Dickinson's solo career through various songs, including the rare "Acoustic Song," previously only available as a bonus track on the Best Of Special Edition , a live version of "Inertia," and the album closer "Eternal"—previously only available as a bonus track on the Japanese version of "Tyranny Of Souls."

The epic show

The first time Dickinson was in Sarajevo, he witnessed a city isolated from the world. Its citizens were brutally terrorized by gunfire, bombs, and famine. Electricity and water were considered nothing less than luxuries. The singer and his band traveled to the front lines and ended up putting on a show for those trapped in the city. The film includes people who participated in and helped make the performance happen, determined to keep fighting for their lives despite all the atrocities around them. Interviews with the band, crew, and security adorn “Scream For Me Sarajevo,” making explicit the reality of the situation, not only dangerous but also barbaric. “There was no protection, there were no security plans, and the bullets were real, but fuck it, we went anyway,” the artist declared in his autobiography “What Does This Button Do?”.

“The show was intense, probably the biggest show in the world at that moment for us and the audience. The fact that the rest of the world didn't know didn't matter. It changed the way I see life, death, and other individuals,” he concludes.

The results

In a December 2015 interview with Sarajevo radio program “The Aebyss,” Dickinson spoke about the security concerns he faces at a time when terrorism has become a global worry. When it comes to deciding which countries to travel to in order to perform, the singer reiterates:

“Personally, yes, I’m going to play no matter what happens. My concern is actually for the people who don’t have a choice. I mean, it was our choice, we decided: ‘Yes, we’re crazy enough to try to do this, drive to Sarajevo in the middle of a war and see if we can do a show.’ And we weren’t sure when we’d be back.”

“But the poor people who attended that show at the Bataclan had no choice: they were completely innocent. And, of course, nobody knew what was going to happen in that place. So, unfortunately, there is a judgment that people have to make, and they should inform themselves as best as possible – whether they will go or not.”

He continued: “You can’t take responsibility for what might happen just because you want to be a bit macho and go around saying, ‘Oh yeah, we did this and people threatened us, but we were brave.’ And that’s great until one day someone does [something like that] and you have a lot of women and children killed, and you think, ‘Maybe we shouldn’t have done the show because it was a potentially threatened place.’ So, unfortunately, we have to be mature enough for that, but at the same time, you still need to be able to offer something to the people who are waiting for you, and send that message. People can’t stop… Real life just goes on.”

“People just moved on. You don’t stop living your life. And that was the message in Sarajevo – that amidst all the madness, this little show symbolized a kind of normalcy. Yes, you know what? There’s a light at the end of the tunnel there.”
