Mary talks about Scott's relationship with his children
Scott Weiland's ex-wife, Mary Weiland, wrote an emotional letter to Rolling Stone regarding the vocalist's death, which occurred on the 3rd of this month .
The cause of the musician's death has not yet been released, but Weiland was known for a history of addiction and abuse of alcohol and drugs.
Read Mary Weiland's letter in full:
"December 3rd wasn't the day Scott Weiland died. It's the official day the public will use to mourn him, and it was the last day he had the opportunity to appear in front of a microphone for the financial benefit of some and the amusement of others. The overwhelming number of messages of condolence and prayers offered to the children, Noah and Lucy, was unexpected, appreciated, and very comforting. But the truth is, like many other children, they lost their father years ago. What they truly lost on the 3rd was hope.".
Even after my breakup with Scott, I spent countless hours trying to calm his paranoid episodes, bathing him and giving him lots of coffee, just so he could show up for Noah's talent show or Lucy's musical. These brief encounters were my attempts to give the children a sense of normalcy regarding their father. But anything longer than that ended up being frightening and uncomfortable for them. Spending so many years immersed in Scott's illnesses led me to depression; at one point I was even wrongly diagnosed as bipolar. I was afraid that would happen to the children. Child Protective Services hadn't allowed them to be alone together for a long time.
Noah and Lucy never sought perfection from their father. They just kept expecting some effort. If you're a parent who isn't doing your best, all anyone asks is that you just try a little harder and don't give up. Progress, not perfection, is what children expect. Our hope in Scott died, but there's still hope for others. Let's make sure, for once, his death isn't glorified like Rock n' Roll and its demons, which, by the way, have nothing to do with it. Put aside the 1967-2015 t-shirt – instead, use the money to take a child to a game, or to get an ice cream.”.
