Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy praises Adrian Smith while questioning why he didn't sing in Iron Maiden.

"Why don't you sing in Iron Maiden?" the guitarist asked.

Scott Gorham gave an interview to eonmusic , praising Adrian Smith . During the interview, the Thin Lizzy recalled that in the 90s he questioned why Adrian didn't take over vocals in Iron Maiden .

In 1997, Scott released the album Welcome To The World with his band Psycho Motel. Adrian made a guest appearance on the track "I'm Alive." A beautiful work by the duo, often forgotten.

Scott then recalled how he and Adrian decided to record together. “I’m a big fan of Adrian Smith. He showed me the demos of that album he was going to record,” said Gorham. At that time, Adrian had returned to Iron Maiden and the band had Blaze Bayley . But when Gorham heard Smith sing he was thrilled and recalls: “I heard his voice. I said, ‘Adrian, why aren’t you singing in Iron Maiden? Be the singer!’ He has a great voice, you know? Forget about being a great guitarist – which he is – this guy can sing!”

Scott vividly remembers Adrian's response at the time regarding why he didn't front a band like Maiden. "He told me, 'no, that's too much pressure, being the frontman, you know, having to talk to everyone every night. No, no, no, I'm only good at playing guitar,'" the guitarist added.

But Scott says he understands his colleague well, since he's seen how Phil Lynott handles the pressure of being the lead singer of a big band. “I kind of understood that because watching Phil every night, the way he could shrink the audience, no matter the size of the arena, he managed to reduce it and include everyone, and that's a real art form to be able to do something like that,” Gorham said. Some time later, Smith shared the microphone in the Smith/Kotzen collaboration. The duo released their debut album in 2022.
