One week before their participation in the Vive Latino 2024 in Mexico City, the German band Scorpions issued a statement on social media announcing the cancellation of the show .
The decision was made due to health problems faced by vocalist Klaus Meine , who recently underwent spinal surgery. The musician stated that the procedure prevents him from being in condition to perform the show.
"Dear Mexican fans,
Knowing that some of our most incredible fans live in Mexico, it is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Scorpions will not be performing at the Vive Latino Festival on March 16, 2024, in Mexico City.
The reason for the cancellation is that I recently underwent complex spinal surgery. My doctors expected me to be better in time for the show. I've been making good progress with rehabilitation, but unfortunately, I haven't recovered as expected. After speaking with the team, I was informed that it would be difficult to face a 12-hour flight, in addition to performing at an altitude of 2,000 meters. I'm not well enough to travel and deliver the show everyone deserves.
I'm very sorry for causing this inconvenience to all our loyal Mexican fans and the excellent promoters. I hope you understand.
With love, Klaus
Besides Klaus, the current Scorpions lineup includes guitarists Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs , bassist Pawel Maciwoda , and drummer Mikkey Dee .
Last-minute replacement
Even with the festival dates so close, Vive Latino has already announced on social media who will replace Scorpions on stage. The task fell to the acclaimed British musician Billy Idol , who will perform on March 16th.
