Scorpions reach 1 billion views on the music video for "Wind Of Change"

The video is the group's first to surpass that feat on YouTube.

Scorpions surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube last weekend with the music video for "Wind Of Change." The video, released in 2009, is the band's first to achieve this milestone. The news was celebrated by the group on social media .

The song was written by Klaus Meine after the band's performance at the Moscow Music Peace in Russia in 1989. The experience of playing for over 100,000 people and the fall of the Berlin Wall were major inspirations for the composition, which carries an air of hope.

Guitarist Rudolf Schenker commented further in 2015 on the meaning of the song: “We wanted to show people in Russia that a new generation of Germans is growing up here. They’re not coming with tanks and guns and making war – they’re coming with guitars and rock 'n' roll and bringing love!” (via Blabbermouth ).

In the music video directed by Wayne Isham , a black and white performance can be seen while archival footage from the time of the Berlin Wall and the war is shown. The video can be viewed at the end of this article.

"Wind Of Change" is part of the 11th album Crazy World (1990), which reached number 21 on the Billboard in 1991.

The "Billion Dollar Club," which includes artists who have also reached this milestone, features Bon Jovi , AC/DC , Linkin Park and more.

Recently, Scorpions made a change to the lyrics of a song because of the war in Ukraine, and the vocalist explained where that idea came from .
