Scientists honor Gojira by naming newly discovered marine animal fossils after it.

The starfish's relatives have been given scientific names inspired by the band.

Gojira 's commitment to environmental causes will now be immortalized in science as well. The French band's name has been chosen to name fossils of brittle stars, animals related to starfish, recently discovered.

The naming was chosen by scientists from the Luxembourg Museum of Natural History and the Florida Museum. According to Kerrang!, the new types of brittle stars were found in France, Austria, and Luxembourg and were named Ophiogojira labadiei, Ophiogojira andreui, and Ophioduplantiera noctiluca in their scientific names.

The band celebrated the news on social media, saying that the initiative "connects Gojira with Earth's history for eternity."
