Scientist who discovered water on Mars is a headbanger

Lujendra Ojha played in a Death Metal band

Lujendra Ojha, the 25-year-old student who helped prove the existence of water on Mars, is a metalhead. Currently pursuing a PhD in planetary science at Georgia Tech University, Ojha published his thesis with the first findings of flowing salty water lines on Mars in 2011. The study was one of those that resulted in the finding published this week by NASA.

The discovery about Ojha's past in Metal came through the CNet website, which sought explanations for a photo showing the scientist playing guitar at a concert. Ojha stated that his life in Metal is a thing of the past: “Yeah, that's an old life. I was broke with music, so I decided to give it up and thought, 'I'll go into science, there must be more money there.' But there's no money in science either.”

The website Metal Sucks revealed that Ojha's death metal band was called Gorkha, and can be heard here .
