Thunderbolt features twelve unreleased tracks

Frontman Biff Byford revealed that the song "They Played Rock And Roll" is a tribute to Motörhead, who, according to Byford, "have always been a reference for Saxon .

The renowned producer Andy Sneap (Judas Priest, Accept, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Exodus, Megadeth, Kreator, among others) was responsible for mixing the album, which is named Thunderbolt, inspired by the gods of Greek mythology.

Saxon's lineup remains the same with Biff Byford (vocals), Paul Quinn (guitar), Nigel Glockler (drums), Nibbs Carter (bass) and Doug Scarratt (guitar).
