In a recent interview for the Appetite For Distortion , Biff Byford , the charismatic vocalist of the renowned heavy metal band Saxon , shared his fascinating insights into his unique approach to caring for his voice while touring.

Contrary to conventional practices, Byford revealed that he does not undergo vocal exercises, preferring to simply let his voice soar.

“I don’t really do any vocal exercises, to be honest. I just sing. I don’t sing in the dressing room and make everyone go crazy. I don’t do all that. So I just go out and sing, for real. I mean, our music is a vocal exercise in itself, so it’s all good,” explained the vocalist (via Blabbermouth ).

When asked about the evolution of his voice over his five-decade career, the singer stated that he believes he has gained more power in the lower register over time. "I think my voice has improved over the years, actually. I don't know why. Luck, I suppose."

Furthermore, Byford addressed the importance of staying physically fit to meet the demands of live performances. “I kind of try to build stamina, I do some workouts. Work out more and do more physically, just to build stamina. So, yeah, I’m dieting and generally trying to get back in shape for the road.”

This unique perspective from the vocalist offers fans an insider's view into the vocal and physical care that underpins his impressive stage performances over the decades.
