The city of São Paulo has announced plans to hold a free international mega-concert sometime in 2026, inspired by the success of major events held in Rio de Janeiro, such as the concerts by Madonna and Lady Gaga .

According to Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), the intention is to promote a large musical show in September, with prominent international artists slated for the lineup.

The initiative, revealed in an interview with Radio CBN by the mayor, already has some names under consideration, such as U2 , Foo Fighters , Rolling Stones , and Mariah Carey , reinforcing the ambition to transform São Paulo into a benchmark for free outdoor concerts.

The project aims to follow the model of the "Todo Mundo no Rio" , which has already drawn large crowds to Copacabana and boosted tourism and the local economy, with historic performances and record-breaking audiences.

Ricardo Nunes revealed that he has already received proposals for the show and sent a message to the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes : "Ah, ours will be better. For sure."

The location for the mega-show in São Paulo is still under discussion, with Avenida Paulista being the mayor's preferred option due to its infrastructure, but facing legal obstacles that limit annual events in that space.

According to CBN Radio , since 2007 there has been a Conduct Adjustment Agreement limiting events on Paulista Avenue to three per year: New Year's Eve, the São Silvestre Race, and the LGBT+ Pride Parade. However, meetings with the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office are ongoing. "The São Paulo City Hall requested authorization for a fourth event, arguing that New Year's Eve and the São Silvestre race take place on the same day," reported CBN.

If it comes to fruition, the event could become a fixture on São Paulo's cultural calendar, becoming one of the biggest free concerts ever held in the country, attracting music fans and boosting the national music scene.
