In an interview with New York radio station Q104.3 Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony revealed a desire to organize a tribute concert for guitarist and bandmate Eddie Van Halen . Eddie passed away last October at the age of 65 after a long battle with throat cancer.
“It has to happen,” Hagar said. “Of course it’s going to happen. Nobody really connected all the dots with everyone involved, but I’ve been told, and I’ve read interviews with several people involved – with Wolfie [ Wolfgang Van Halen , Eddie’s son] and Valerie [ Bertinelli , Eddie’s ex-wife] and Eddie’s wife [ Janie ] – they all said that as soon as this is over, we’re going to get everyone together and do a tribute or whatever; just a thank you, a goodbye, a farewell.”
Sammy also said he believes it's "absolutely necessary": "I don't care if it takes 10 years – it's going to happen. And if we're available for it, we're going to do it." Michael Anthony added that "we have to celebrate the music – so much good music.".
