"We need to be friends before we work together."
Sammy Hagar spoke with Eddie Trunk on his radio show and revealed that a Van Halen reunion will not be happening anytime soon.
The musician says that people always ask how the band is doing, and his answer is always the same: “Nothing. I have no idea. I haven’t heard from the guys in the band anymore.”
“For me, they made it clear what they wanted when they didn’t wish me a happy birthday on my 70th birthday. Especially now that we’re losing so many people. Tom Petty died a week before, you know? His birthday was the Thursday after mine and he was still young. If someone turns 70, it’s a big deal ,” he says.
Hagar also reveals that he was disappointed with his Van Halen bandmates for not speaking to bassist Michael Anthony when he lost his grandson at just two weeks old. “Even Dave [Lee Roth] sent his condolences to Mike. And, you know, Dave isn’t the nicest guy in the world, but he had the class to talk to him .
He concludes by saying that the band members aren't interested in being friends, ruling out the possibility of a reunion. "We need to be friends before we can work together .
