In a recent interview with UCR , Sammy Hagar expressed his belief that Van Halen – the band he fronted from 1985 to 1996 – actively tried to erase the period known as the Van Hagar Era.
According to Sammy Hagar, the defining period was the final three tours Van Halen undertook with vocalist David Lee Roth in 2007, 2012, and 2015. "It seems that when Van Halen reunited with Roth, they really tried to bury the Van Hagar era," he said.
“They didn’t do remasters, they didn’t allow it to be shown in films, they didn’t allow it to be licensed for video games and commercials. They forced everything that was part of the Roth era because of the reunion that was happening,” he added. “The albums [from the Van Hagar era] are all number 1. 50 million records. No matter how proud I am of my solo work, I can’t ignore that. It was the peak of my career, but I don’t exploit that much.”
Despite the comment, Sammy Hagar is known for adding some Van Halen fan favorites to his shows, such as "Good Enough" and "Humans Being," which he says makes the audience "go crazy."
