Sammy Hagar , former vocalist of Van Halen , revealed during an interview with Jose Mangin of SiriusXM that he has received an invitation to join Pantera.
Hagar recalled a moment from the past when he was approached by Pantera's then-manager about joining the band as a replacement for Philip Anselmo. "That was before I became friends with Vinnie [the group's late drummer]," he said.
“He [the manager] said he wanted me to be the band's vocalist and asked me, 'Would you be interested?' I said, 'No, after Van Halen [left in 1996] I don't intend to join another band, especially not in someone else's place.' And I spoke to Vinnie once. He didn't remember. But I don't know if there's any truth to that.”
Blabbermouth recalled in 2011, Hagar told Forbes that he had already been considered for other bands. “I was once asked to be in Mötley Crüe. I was invited by Pantera’s agents to join the band. I was asked to join Velvet Revolver when Scott Weiland quit… I was waiting to be asked to join Led Zeppelin so I could say no, since they were the biggest band in the world and I couldn’t replace Robert Plant.”
“I was asked to join Aerosmith and I said no. Certain bands and certain singers are harder to replace than others. Steven Tyler and that band were together for 40 years and you don't just step into something like that. They had a moment back when they replaced Joe Perry, but it was always Steven at the forefront of Aerosmith. You can't replace that. When I joined Van Halen, it was easy because Dave [Lee Roth] wasn't a great singer, but he was a good vocalist.”
