Sammy Hagar told Fox News about his plans, along with Eddie Van Halen , to produce new music before the guitarist's death in 2020.

During the interview, the vocalist said: “He wanted to continue. He was interested in this before he died.”

He recounted the reconnection after so many years apart: “When we first spoke again, after we’d been through all the arguments, and he was ill, and I got in touch, and we met and talked a lot. He was talking about playing the cello and playing some wind instruments.”

Sammy Hagar expressed a desire to reconnect with his old friend about songwriting: “He was saying, ‘Yeah, I’m working on some [songs].’ Because I kept asking, ‘Ed, what are you working on? I want to get in there and work with you. Let’s write together again.’”

“He said, ‘Yes, yes, yes. Next year we’re going to get together, make some noise and everything,’” Hagar recalled. “He said, ‘Yes, I’m really experimenting with other instruments.’ And I thought, wow, he just – he was so musical. And he had hands that would do whatever he thought.”

"That's no exaggeration. That's not bragging, not at all. The guy was a musical genius," he concludes.

Sammy Hagar was the lead singer of Van Halen from 1985 to 1995, and then briefly returned for a tour with the band in 2004.
