In a video, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony share the challenges and emotions of performing a show with The Circle on Catalina Island, California, and playing Van Halen Eddie Van Halen 's death .
“For Mike and me, it was like being run over by a damn truck. It kind of took the wind out of our sails,” Hagar says. “I’m kind of devastated, and thank God I’m happy that we can do this again tomorrow. It’s never been so hard to sing a Van Halen song in my life.”
“It was difficult. It was very surreal to play 'Right Now'. It still hasn't sunk in,” Anthony adds. “What I felt playing a song like 'Right Now,' which is especially timeless, was, 'Wow, thank God for this.' We'll never play with Eddie again, but thank God for that,” says Sammy.
“We have the music and it will live forever, if nothing else,” concludes Anthony, who, along with Sammy, greets Eddie and finishes the video with a touching “I love you, Eddie.”
