Sabaton: New single “Christmas Truce” addresses a poignant Christmas episode from the First World War.

Sabaton wrote about a touching Christmas truce between British and German soldiers during the First World War.

In preparation for the arrival of their tenth studio album, The War To End All Wars , Sabaton released this Friday, the 29th, the new single “Christmas Truce”, based on a moving true Christmas story that took place during the First World War.

The historic and remarkable episode took place on Christmas Eve, when the British army began to hear German troops singing Christmas carols in the opposing trenches, which were decorated with lanterns and small trees. The following day, the two enemy troops met in a moment of peace to exchange gifts, take photos, and even play football. Hence the name "Christmas Truce".

Regarding the song, Sabaton bassist Pär Sundström said: “This was not only the most requested song by our fans, but for us, it’s also the most moving story of the war. It took us years to create this song because we wanted the music to honestly reflect the atmosphere, and that was a great challenge; but we feel we’ve written a song that captures the spirit of that day, which happened over a century ago.”

The album The War To End All Wars will be released on March 4, 2022.
