Today we're going to talk about the song "Panzerkampf" by the band Sabaton .
The song "Battle of Tanks" tells the story of the Battle of Kursk, which is known as the largest tank battle in human history.
"Into the Motherland, the German Army marches!
In the Soviet Union, Summer of 1943.
Tanks line up by the thousands, as far as the eye can see.
Ready for the massacre, ready for the fight.
Waiting for the Axis, marching into the trap."
It took place in July 1943, and was the last major offensive by the German army into Soviet territory during World War II.
The traps mentioned were the mines that the Soviet army placed in strategic locations to explode when the Germans passed by during the early morning hours.
"Into the Motherland the German Army marches!
Comrades, stand side by side to contain the Nazi advance […]
A million men at war, awakening Soviet fury."
The Soviet Union suffered the most casualties in the war, but it also had the most soldiers.
In that battle, there were almost 2 million Soviet soldiers and approximately 5,000 tanks against about 800,000 Nazi soldiers and 3,000 tanks.
"Fields of Prokhorovka, the heat of battle burned.
They suffered heavy casualties, the course of the war changed.
Fighting on the front, driving out the Germans.
Hunt them down, Mother Russia, out of Soviet lands!"
Prokhorovka was one of the cities where the Battle of Kursk spread, and it was fought on the Eastern Front by the Red Army.
“Reinforce the front line, force the Axis retreat.
Send in all reserves, ensuring their defeat […]
The ruins of an army, the Axis rests in hell.”
The Soviet army launched a counteroffensive to flank the Germans, inflicting their worst defeat of the war so far.
"Oh, Mother Russia, union of the lands
, will of the people, strong in command
, Oh, Mother Russia, union of the lands,
once again victorious, the Red Army remains."
