Rush's 'Permanent Waves' is voted the best album of 1980

'Heaven and Hell' by Black Sabbath and 'Back in Black' by AC/DC tied for second place

In the Wikimetal podcast , we talked about some classic albums that are turning 40 in 2020, and to accompany this, we released a poll asking you, our reader, which one is the best.

Well, you voted and we listened! Rush 's Permanent Waves was voted the best album of 1980, with 831 votes, 24% of the total poll. In second place, there was a tie between Black Sabbath 's Heaven and Hell and AC/DC 's Back in Black , both with 21% of the votes.

Among the most voted, we also had two incredible debuts: Iron Maiden self-titled album, and Ozzy Osbourne 's Blizzard of Ozz . Among the least voted, we had some of the biggest names in rock and metal: Van Halen with Women and Children First , Saxon with Wheels of Steel, and Def Leppard with On Through the Night , with 21, 16, and 15 votes respectively.

Released in the first month of 1980, Permanent Waves Rush 's seventh studio album , features six tracks recorded at Le Studio in Quebec, Canada, and produced by Terry Brown , alongside the band members, who contributed to the production.
